I grew up reading comic books wanting to be a superhero. Comics taught me that those who speak the truth are heroes, all the rest are liars.

U.S. death toll in Iraq reaches 4,000

There are no words that can explain the sadness that this milestone brings.
U.S. death toll in Iraq reaches 4,000

Please pray for peace. Pray that this war comes to an end before we loose anymore of our young men and women.
Pray for the 4,000 families that this war has changed forever.

I remember being on the Lake/Marshall bridge in the fall of 2005, on the occasion of 2,000 American war dead. At that sad time, I asked Keith Ellison to challenge Marty Sabo for the endorsement. Keith turned me down, but later won the seat after Sabo announced his retirement.

All these months after that hopeful election of November 2006, we are still waiting for peace. We have doubled the U.S. deaths since that earlier vigil. Over a million Iraqis have died as a direct or indirect result of the war and occupation. About two million Iraqis have fled the country, and well over two million Iraqis have become internal refugees in their own homeland. The eventual price tag is passing three trillion and is heading for twice that. We now officially torture. We now hold people indefinitely without charges.

Our soldiers and marines come home and kill themselves or kill their children or their girlfriends or spouses. Or maybe they just disappear into a bottle.

What have we become? When will this end"

It's so painfully true. I noticed that the Iraq war barely gets acknowledged on the major news stations. It's been replaced by concerns about the economy. We have to stop the madness.
