I grew up reading comic books wanting to be a superhero. Comics taught me that those who speak the truth are heroes, all the rest are liars.

Hope Rising - Poverty

Senator Barack Obama understands the problem of poverty. He has seen the affects of poverty first hand. He has actively fought to improve the lives of those living in poverty.

I am supporting Senator Obama for President, because we need someone who will fight to end poverty. He not only understands the problem, but has a multi-facetted plan to deal with poverty.

I particularly find his plan to tackle concentrated poverty interesting:

Establish 20 Promise Neighborhoods: Obama will create 20 Promise Neighborhoods in areas that have high levels of poverty and crime and low levels of student academic achievement in cities across the nation. The Promise Neighborhoods will be modeled after the Harlem Children's Zone, which provides a full network of services, including early childhood education, youth violence prevention efforts and after-school activities, to an entire neighborhood from birth to college.

Back in May of 2006 CBS's 60 Minutes did a story about the Harlem Children's Zone.

In June 2004 the New York Times did this story: The Harlem Project.

HOPE in ACTION.
