And of course he did it all because he’s a democrat!

I agree when you say, Lieberman is "an independent opportunist". There is a solution, the DNC Senate Leadership could offer a guaranteed chairmanship to a disaffected GOP Senator if they leave the Republican Party, and strip Lieberman of his standing in the DNC. This would make Lieberman's waffling irrelevant.
I like it...a little outside the box but really the outcome is the same but with a message!
